When I tell people that I know exactly what my God-given purpose in life is, they often try to question me about how I could know. When God gives someone a vision that is outside the boundaries of a traditional ministry, it is extremely hard to get folks involved. That’s why I thank God each day for those who have given their time, talents, and treasures to help Heaven Skates reach the skaters.
“But
sanctify the Lord God in your heart, and always be ready to give a defense to
everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and
fear." 1 Peter
I want to take a little time to tell you about one
of the most awesome people involved with Heaven Skates. His name is Guy, and he
has helped in all areas of the Heaven Skates ministry, sometimes with little or
no advance notice.
Let me tell you about his first time at Heaven
Skates back in about 1997. I had showed him how we check skaters in at the check-in
counter. At that time, we had our office in the back of a semi trailer. With
both back doors open, we could sit and see the whole skate area and parking
lot.
I had to go over to the main church for just a
minute so I left Guy alone to check in anyone who showed up. That’s when Guy
saw a car drive up, and some older skaters got out. They had facial piercings, and they looked rough that when Guy thought to
himself, “I hope they don’t come over here until Bill gets back.”
Just then, he saw their eyes look at the sign right
above his head that said, "All skaters
must check in before skating," with an arrow pointing right at him. They
started to walk right for him. He really got worried and started to pray for my
quick return.
Guy told me he was worried all the way to the point
when they started a conversation with him. At that point, he knew he had
nothing to be worried about. From that day on, whenever those skaters came
back, they always talked with Guy.
Guy has been extremely helpful and faithful to
Heaven Skates and to me personally. Thank God I have so many friends like Guy,
who are willing to help out anyway they can.
Last
Sunday at church, our Pastor said there are 65 million unchurched

“Whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with them so that they will let me tell them about Christ and let Christ save them."

Heaven Skates uses skateboard ramps to create common
ground with skaters of all ages and types. On May 8th, our portable
ministry will be at a church in
We are actively working to find land to build our
stationary park on, and we are praying daily for God’s direction in that area.
Thanks to a few new givers, we have about one-third
of our budget needs met for this year. We are still two-thirds short, and with
expensive insurance to buy, we need people to get involved. Please pray that
this need is met. All donations are tax-deductible.
