July and August News 2005

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run the with perseverance the race marked out for us.

I never had a doubt about what race God has marked out for me. My study Bible notes for this verse says that the Christian life is pictured as a long-distance race rather than a short sprint. I’m in this for the long haul or for as long as God wants me in.

In July I was so busy getting ready for a trip with our portable skate park that I had no time to stop and write a newsletter. So I am combining July and August this time.

Our trip was to Jensen Beach Florida, the church was Treasure Coast Community Church and the event on July 23rd.  It went really well, with five young skaters accepting Christ.  Lots of people came together to help with everything from check in, and food service, to, set up and tear down.  We also had a live band from Largo, Florida that was great.  The church paid all our expenses and let us sleep in their youth room. We had the biggest set up ever at this event.

God has given us some really great new friends in Jensen beach, but there was one young man,  just seventeen years old there that really touched our hearts. They call him John Wayne and he has Leukemia. He told us a little about his treatments and even stayed the night with us in the church youth room. The most impressive thing was how excited and active he was in church on Sunday morning. Many times I looked over to see his hands raised high praising God. It was a real blessing for us to be around such a fine young man.

We have also been extremely busy hear at home. The first Saturday of each month till October we volunteer to work for the Downtown Development authority. They have concerts downtown and we serve wherever we are needed.

The idea was to break down the stereotyping of skateboarders and show that these are some of the best kids who want to help. Not only have we bonded some strong friendships between the skaters and other workers but I hear that a lot of people are working on helping us find property.

We also have the chance to double our current space. However I had to make a lot of cuts in my needs in order to keep our current office open. Currently kids come and hang out for free because we can’t really charge to skate in such a small area. With the larger area we can charge a little for skating plus sell skate supplies.  One way or another I will keep on serving God till he calls me home.

I want to thank each and every person who sends a donation each month faithfully. This has been such a great help. Special thanks for all the prayers and for all those that have went to work to help find clothing, school supplies and food for a needy families we have at Heaven Skates.
